Through the practice of Aikido, we will help people improve the quality of their lives by developing wisdom, cultivating love & compassion and maintaining a peaceful mind.
Aikido is many things – a martial art, self defense, physical training, a community of people with whom to train, a meditation, a fun way to spend an evening. While it is all of these things, for us, first and foremost, Aikido is a spiritual path for personal transformation.
On the surface, the main focus of training seems to be physical. We learn to perfect our technique, to have the confidence and ability to defend ourselves against any attack, to move beautifully. These are certainly wonderful and worthwhile achievements. In fact, the first phase of Aikido training is about mastering the basic techniques. However, at the same time we are also training ourselves to see what is real, to make a genuine connection with another human being, to intentionally put ourselves in awkward, uncomfortable, sometimes even frightening, situations. Why do this?
We allow ourselves to be vulnerable so that we can develop the courage to be present regardless of circumstance, to soften and open our heart when all we want to do is run away, to have compassion for ourselves and others, and to gain the wisdom to recognize that we are all connected … so that we can develop a fearless heart.
Practice with us and discover your fearless heart!
